So anyone who knows me knows I am a sucker for any place that has macro(nutrient) breakdowns. I mean like, not just calories, but the actual break down of 'protein, carbs, fats'. I know I know, it might seem overkill, but I do get a kick outta seeing the numbers of components - you'd swear I was talking about some mathematic equation. So imagine my absolute delight stumbling across such a place..
Upper Baggot street used to be my old hunting ground when I was kid back in primary school - back when a cheeky coke-float at Eddie Rockets or a chicken stuffing roll at O'Briens ruled the roost food wise on the street (hashtaghealth). A friend and I took a walk around the street and for some reason settled on this place.. namely because the sign said "falafel", and well, she was sold.

Inside, no sooner had we reached the counter and had a look at the menu a stupid grin appeared on my face. This swanky little place called 'Borlottie' has nutrition down, sorted, sussed. I was immediately drawn by the 'Feel good range' listing off a series of salad boxes with a description and then broken down into their macros. Each salad came with a subtitle - “Rich in protein and anitoxidants”, “pre or post work out fuel, make the training count”, going as far as being "recommended by Crossfit Dublin".. needless to say my inner gym nerd was having a field day. I eventually settled on the 'Gym Box' - "Pulled beef brisket with baby spinach leaves, quarts of free range eggs, edamame beans, sweet roasted potatoes, green peas, quinoa, feta & tomato, dressed with our mediterranean dressing". We ordered at the till which was flanked by fresh ingredients and steaming dishes ready to be prepared together.

We took a seat in the pretty sleek seating area and it was time to get stuck in. The 'Gym Box' came a clear plastic box through which you could see the steam gently masking the warm salad. Topped with some delicious tender pulled pork, the salad was oh so creamy with the dressing, crumbly feta and roasted sweet potatoes. The eggs were quartered and hidden like gems in the bowl. You got something different with each bite, which is what you want in a good salad.
The critical info for you similarly macro-loving people - the 'Gym Box' comes in at: (5oz) Calories 382, Protein 34g, Fat 12g, Carb 31g, Fiber 10g, Sugars 8g
I have to say Borlottie is such a breath of fresh air, making fresh and flavoursome food that is full of bang and sound nutrition. Yes I am fully happy to buy into message they preach - treating healthy clean food as fuel for life, and without sacrificing taste and freshness in the process. If it's not for the nutritional value or benefits, you're in no doubt going to pick up something tasty and filling - trust me you'll have the feel good factor afterwards.
