KC Peaches, Dublin _ eat

KC Peaches has been my regular haunt for catch-up lunches or coffee chats with friends. Having opened four branches around Dublin, KC Peaches always provides a nice setting to sit and chill out. Each of the four spots have their draws - the hustle and bustle of Nassau Street; the outdoor seating at Stephen's Green; the proximity to Grand Canal dock of Pearse street; or the street views from Dame street.

The Dame Street branch is quickly becoming my favourite of late as it's somewhat the least busiest of the three in town. (Mind you, they are all rather busy from time to time) The food is always on point and there's generally a free seat somewhere. They pretty much have it covered whether you fancy a coffee and cake, a lunch sambo, hot dishes or mixed salads. You're pretty much guaranteed good food.. as well as a long queue.

My go-to is more often or not the salad bar, which always looks fresh and filled with wholesome options. The best part of KC Peaches is the simplicity, you don't have to decide on what single salad you want... you just take a plate - small, medium or large - and fill it with a mix of everything or whatever tickles your fancy. (Your own call on how much you can fit on your plate!) While they do offer hot food in the same pick 'n' mix fashion, I find myself always drawn to the array of salads. You simply pay for which ever size plate you choose and head for the till.. which there is often confusion about as there are tills at both ends of the counter.

This particular day, despite the blustery winds and cold outside, my friend and I went for the usual plate to sample all the chilled salads. What was missing today however was the broccoli salad and also the quinoa salad which are generally two of my favourites. The large plate of salad and Americano, with a piece of biscotti, totalling just under €12.

We've taken to finding our spot in the Wine Cave seating area in the cafe - our own little niche which is rarely crowded. In saying that though, I've spent a good few lovely afternoons in the upstairs seating area glancing over the streets and passing time. Anyway, back to the Wine Cave corner and plates filled to the brim...

In the usual panic of filling our dishes we weren't entirely sure of what we scooped up - put it this way, anything remotely colourful ended up on the plate! The joy of the mixed plate is probably the tucking in and tasting what is what. We tried a scoop of several of the pasta dishes - one being penne tossed with smoked bacon and the other in a light pesto sauce. The brightly coloured beetroot salad with garden peas and spinach leaves tossed in never fails to disappoint. We also tried the pumpkin salad which we mistook for sweet potato... having never had pumpkin chunks before we were quite surprised by how dense and crunchy each chunk was. Also making an appearance on the plate was their chickpea salad and a chicken salad with an assortment of sliced vegetables. During some lovely chatter it took us almost an hour to finish off the dishes. The complimentary biscotti when dipped in the coffee made for a satisfying finisher to our long lunch.

If you're looking for a nice place to eat in and around the Grafton Street area, there is for sure a KC Peaches within walking distance - it's up to you which one you choose! Tuck in to a hot or cold plate or try any of the tempting pasteries and cakes that line the shop window. It's your call as to how much you can fit on your plate - proper bang for your buck.
